Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt on Thursday congratulated the 60th anniversary of the establishment of China-Sweden diplomatic relations.

Reinfeldt presented a letter to Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao through Foreign Minister Carl Bildt who attended the celebration of the 60th anniversary of China-Sweden diplomatic relations at the Chinese Embassy in Stockholm on Thursday.

"On the sixtieth anniversary of the establishment of the bilateral relations between Sweden and the People's Republic of China, I'd like to extend my best wishes to you, your government and to the people of China," said Reinfeldt in the letter, read by Bildt at the celebration.

"Sino-Swedish relations have significantly become stronger over the past sixty years and have enjoyed many highlights. People to people contacts are developed over the years, many dedicated citizens from our countries have worked together on a wide range of important issues of global relevance," said Reinfeldt in the letter.

"We have gradually known each other better, I would like to reconfirm the ambition of the Swedish government to further broaden and deepen our cooperation with China in the future," the letter added. "I look forward to working with you on the continued development of friendly constructive relations between Sweden and the People's Republic of China," concluded the letter.

On May 9, 1950, Sweden and China formally established diplomatic relations. Sweden became the first western country which established diplomatic relations with People's Republic of China.
