Thai flood death toll climbs to 206

The death toll from flood in Thailand which has hit the country for more than a month has risen to 206, said government's report on Friday.

It is an increase of three from the 203 confirmed fatalities of Thursday, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported.

The department said a total of 146 people in the northern, northeastern, eastern and central plains and 60 in southern provinces lost their lives in widespread flooding.

In the South, Songkhla had the highest number of flood fatalities at 27, followed by Nakhon Si Thammarat (9), Phattalung (7), Surat Thani (6), Pattani (5), Trang (3), Satun (2) and Chumpon (1), according to the department.

Heavy flood, caused by a combination of heavy rainfall and water released from overloaded reservoirs, has hit Thailand since October 10 especially in the Northeast and the South.

Flood waters have receded 21 provinces but 18 provinces with 1. 4 million people are still being affected by flooding.
