China wishes to further develop the ongoing coordination and exchanges with Greece and the Socialist International, said Liu Jieyi, vice minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.

Liu made the remarks during his meeting with the President of Socialist International and Prime Minister of Greece, George Papandreou, on the sidelines of the recent Socialist International session in Paris on November 15-16, 2010.

Liu lauded Mr Papandreou's contribution towards the positive relations between Socialist International and the Communist Party of China (CPC) and said that the CPC intends to further support their ongoing dialogue since "it has realised that there are many common points between the Socialist International and the political orientations of the CPC".

Liu and Mr Papandreou both agreed that the Greek ruling party PASOK and the CPC have maintained sound cooperation and also expressed the hope to further promote the friendly relations through bipartisan dialogues and exchanges.

"Exchanges of not only high ranking officials but also of the young representatives of our governments will help us build a strong, long-term relations between our countries and our parties", stressed Mr Papandreou, who is also President of the Greek ruling party PASOK.

Furthermore he conveyed his warmest regards to Chinese President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao, with whom he met recently in Athens and Brussels and "had very productive bilateral talks".

Mr. Papandreo also said Socialist International and CPC can work together on matters of World Disarmament and explore solutions to the current world financial problems.

"Socialist International has already cooperated with the CPC on climate change and sustainable development issues", he said, referring to his latest visit in Beijing as President of the SI during discussions between the organisation and China on sustainable development in May, 2009.

"I am sure we can find many common approaches in some of the regional issues we discussed with Socialist International members here today", said Mr Papandreou.
