China, Singapore conclude 2nd counter-terrorism drill

The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) and the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) concluded their second joint counter-terrorism training exercise here on Wednesday.
Ma Xiaotian, deputy chief of the General Staff of the PLA, and Singapore's Permanent Secretary for Defense Chiang Chie Foo attended the closing ceremony of the COOPERATION 2010 training exercise which kicked off in Singapore on Nov. 19.
"This training exercise was conducted in an open, cooperative and peaceful manner," Ma commented, "This is also the first time a PLA chemical defense regiment participates a joint exercise with the SAF here since the two countries established diplomatic ties 20 years ago," he added.
Ma said through the exercise, the two sides showed their willingness to engage and cooperate with each other and to bring the bilateral defense relations to a new level. This is of great significance to the peace and stability to the region and the world.
The COOPERATION 2010 training exercise focuses on counter- terrorism security operations for major international events. About 60 personnel from the SAF and 86 personnel from the PLA took part in the exercise which consisted of seminars, planning exercises and response drills.
The exercise, first held in Guilin, China, in 2009, underscores the warm and growing defense relations between both armed forces, which interact regularly through exchanges of visits, courses, seminars and port calls.
The participating PLA will return to China on Nov. 26.
