A senior Chinese military officer said here Wednesday that the Chinese and Austrian militaries should look to further advance bilateral ties.

Chen Bingde, chief of the general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), made the remarks while holding talks with the chief of general staff of Austrian army Edmund Entacher.

During their meeting, Chen said China-Austria military relations had developed smoothly through frequent high-level visits as well as active interaction in various fields such as training and logistics.

China attaches importance to its ties with Austria, Chen said, adding that China appreciated Austria's adherence to the One-China principle.

Next year is the 40th anniversary of China-Austria diplomatic ties.

"We hope the military relationship can progress in a more pragmatic direction in the future," Chen said.

Entacher echoed Chen saying Austria would like to expand cooperation with China within the framework of the United Nations, and hoped the relationship between the two militaries could be further developed.
