China called on all parties in Cote d'Ivoire to act on a recent U.N. resolution on Friday.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said in a statement that China is worried about the current security situation in Cote d'Ivoire.
Hong said that China has always advocated a peaceful solution to Cote d'Ivoire's post-election crisis. He added that China supports the mediation efforts of the African Union and the Economic Community of West African States.
Hong also said that China has called on all parties in Cote d'Ivoire to act on a U.N. resolution to restore national peace, stability and social order as soon as possible. Meanwhile, China urges Cote d'Ivoire to take concrete measures to protect its civilians and foreign nationals.
The UN Security Council unanimously approved a resolution demanding an end to violence against civilians in Cote d'Ivoire on Wednesday. It also decided to adopt targeted sanctions against the West African country's incumbent leader Laurent Gbagbo, his wife and three of his associates.
