China, India pledge to push forward military relations

Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie met with India's Minister of State for Defense Pallam Raju on the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue here on Friday.
Liang and Raju held frank and in-depth discussion on the relations between the two countries, those between the two militaries as well as other topics both countries care about.
Both Liang and Raju said they will make efforts to push forward the relations between the two militaries.
Liang said that China and India share interests and concerns on many international issues as well as issues related to their social and economic development. The two countries should cherish what they have achieved in bilateral cooperation, pursue more common interests where possible and expand their cooperation.
They should handle their differences and sensitive issues properly and push forward the bilateral relations, he said.
The militaries of the two countries have had sound cooperation, Liang said, adding that China will continue to push forward the relations between the militaries.
Raju said that both India and China are important countries in the region and that they both play important roles in regional peace and stability.
India is committed to pushing forward the friendly cooperation with China and, the two countries should further boost the exchanges and cooperation between their militaries, he said.
The Shangri-La Dialogue is a regional security summit organized by London-based think tank International Institute for Strategic Studies. It gathers defense ministers and senior defense officials from Asia and beyond, including the United States, Japan, India and China.
