A military helicopter with the NATO- led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) was crashed in eastern Afghanistan on Saturday, ISAF said in a statement.
"An International Security Assistance Force helicopter crashed in eastern Afghanistan today, and recovery operations are underway. " said the statement issued by ISAF here.
The ISAF is still in the process of assessing the circumstances to determine the facts of the incident, the statement said, adding "reporting indicates there was enemy activity in the area."
The statement did not provide more details, only saying " additional details will be released as appropriate."
However, an Afghan official told Xinhua on Saturday that the incident occurred in eastern Wardak province. "A joint unit of Afghan and NATO-led ISAF forces conducted a search and cleanup operation against Taliban insurgents in Sayed Abad district late on Friday and the operation continue to Saturday morning," Shahidullah Shahid told Xinhua.
Shahid also said one ISAF chopper went down during the operation but failed to give more details.
The Taliban-led insurgency has been rampant since the militant group announced to launch spring offensive from May 1 against Afghan and NATO-led troops stationed in Afghanistan.
