Israel will continue to work towards expanding relations with China, Israeli President Shimon Peres said Tuesday during a meeting with Chen Bingde, visiting chief of the General Staff of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China.
"We consider your visit and its contribution to strengthening the important relations between Israel and China very meaningful," Peres said, according to a press release.
Chen said China is willing to deepen the exchanges between the two sides and push Sino-Israeli relations to a new height.
"Although the role of the Chinese army is to defend the stability and security of China, we have a supreme obligation to contribute to peace, security and stability of the entire world," Chen added.
Chen, who arrived in Israel for the last leg of his three- nation tour that has taken him to Russia and Ukraine, met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday.
China's progress contributed to the world peace and development, Netanyahu said, adding that the two countries should work together for the world's security and prosperity.
The Chinese army will push forward the relations with its Israeli counterpart, strengthen bilateral exchanges and improve mutual understanding, Chen told the prime minister.
