China on Wednesday said it is ready to positively work with the Republic of Korea (ROK) and seriously investigate the recent fishing conflict in order to properly handle relevant issues.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Weimin made the remarks at a press conference here Wednesday.
Crew members of a Chinese fishing boat reportedly came into conflict with two ROK coast guards Monday, leaving one of the coast guards dead and the other injured.
He said China regrets the event, attaches great importance to it, and resolves to keep close communication with the ROK.
Liu said it was an isolated incident, and China believes, through the efforts of both sides, it will not influence the overall state of the bilateral ties.
He said Chinese Embassy in Seoul immediately sent consular officials to visit the Chinese crew members.
China also hopes the ROK can efficiently safeguard the safety of Chinese fishermen and their lawful rights, he added.
