A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman on Thursday said that the cooperation between China and South Sudan has brought concrete benefits to the people of both countries.

"We hope the parties involved can step up communication and coordination to diminish misunderstandings in a bid to foster long-term cooperation," spokesman Hong Lei told a regular news briefing.

Hong made the remarks in response to a question concerning South Sudan's expulsion of the head of a China-Malaysia-owned company.

According to foreign media sources, South Sudan has expelled the head of Chinese-Malaysian oil consortium Petrodar, the main oil firm operating in the new African nation.

Petrodar is a consortium established by the China National Petroleum Corporation and Malaysia's Petronas.
