Visiting Assistant Foreign Minister Zhang Ming who is also a special envoy of the Chinese government, held talks on Tuesday with Arab League chief Nabil al-Arabi on Syrian and other regional issues.
After their one and a half hours talks, Zhang told reporters that the two sides exchanged views on political solution for the Syrian crisis based on China's six-point statement.
"China and the Arab League have broad consensus on Syrian crisis," said Zhang, hoping that the two sides can make further efforts on Syrian and other regional issues.
Zhang kicked off his five-day visit to Saudi Arabia and Egypt on March 10. He will head to France for further discussion with the French side on Syria after visiting Egypt.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Weimin noted earlier that Zhang's visit was intended to further strengthen communication and negotiation with relevant parties on a political resolution for the Syrian issue.
According to Liu, China's six-point statement calls for ceasing all acts of violence, launching an inclusive political dialogue, supporting humanitarian relief efforts, respecting Syria 's sovereignty, welcoming the appointment of the joint special envoy on the Syrian crisis by the UN and the AL and ensuring that UN Security Council members abide by the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and basic norms governing international relations.
