Raul Castro Ruz, president of Cuba's Council of State and the Council of Ministers, is to pay a state visit to China during July 4-7, at the invitation of President Hu Jintao.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Weimin told a regular press briefing that it will be Raul Castro's first state visit to China and the country attaches great importance to it.
Cuba is an important country in Latin America and the first Latin American country to establish diplomatic relations with China, according to Liu.
Hu will hold a series of activities for Castro during his state visit, Liu said, noting that Chinese leaders will hold talks and meetings with Castro to exchange views on bilateral ties as well as international and regional issues of common concern.
The two sides will also sign documents on cooperation, the spokesman said, adding the Chinese side believes the visit will further promote in-depth development of China-Cuba relations.
