CPC leader calls for promotion of China-Pakistan partnership

Visiting CPC leader Li Changchun offered a four-point proposal here on Wednesday, calling on China and Pakistan to expand their pragmatic and productive cooperation and step up their strategic and cooperative partnership to a higher level.

"The good-neighbourly and friendly relations forged between China and Pakistan have become an exemplar for international relations, which delivered concrete benefits to the two peoples and helped safeguard the regional peace and stability," Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), made the remarks when he was addressing a seminar with Pakistani representatives from all walks of life who share close connections to China.

Li proposed the two nations should first further strengthen their political mutual trust and foster strategic communication by promoting the exchange of views and communications between the two governments, parliaments and among leaders of their political parties.

Secondly, Li said China would encourage its well-established Chinese companies to start their business and investment in Pakistan in to further carry out their productive cooperation with mutual benefit.

"We also welcome Pakistani companies to establish their business in China and cement the bilateral cooperation in such fields as trade, energy, agriculture and infrastructure," Li added.

Li also called on the two sides to expand their exchange and cooperation on cultural and humanitarian arena, and create opportunities for young generations of the two peoples to intensify interation in a bid to consolidate the basis and inject new vitality to the China-Pakistan traditional friendship.

Lastly, Li suggested that the two nations should step up their strategic coordination on regional and international issues and give a full play to their consultation mechanisms at various levels to safeguard their common interests.

Li spoke highly of the significant contribution made by Pakistan in the combat against terrorism, noting that China would continue to support the country's endeavors to safeguard independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and national dignity.

"We believe the heroic Pakistani people will successfully address the current challenges and overcome difficulties to score prosperity, stability and sustainability for their national development", Li stressed.

At the invitations of the Pakistani government, Li arrived on Wednesday afternoon for a two-day good will official visit to Pakistan. Pakistan is the first leg of Li's three-nation visit to South Asia that will also bring him to the Maldives and Bangladesh.
