The United States was rather dissatisfied with Hong Kong letting former U.S. intelligence contractor Edward Snowden leave the city, White House National Security Council Spokeswoman Caitlin Hayden said on Monday.
"Such behavior is detrimental to U.S.- Hong Kong and U.S.- China bilateral relations," Hayden noted.
The spokeswoman also pressed Russia to hand over Edward Snowden, "We expect the Russian government to look at all options available to expel Mr. Snowden back to the U.S. to face justice for the crimes with which he is charged."
Snowden landed in Moscow on Sunday and Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino has stated that the whistleblower has sought asylum in the South American country. Ecuador is currently examining his request.
Nevertheless, Russian Interfax news agency said Snowden was expected to leave Moscow for Cuba on Monday.
