Indian police has arrested two suspects in the gang rape of a Danish woman tourist this week in the Indian capital, said local media Thursday.
Police said two homeless men living at the New Delhi railway station area were arrested Wednesday evening in connection with the gang-rape of the 51-year-old Danish tourist and a case of gang rape and robbery has been registered, said the daily Hindustan Times.
Police described the two suspects as "vagabonds" hanging around the railway station area, one of the most dangerous places in the Indian capital.
The tourist was kidnapped and repeatedly gangraped for three hours by at six men, all drunk, in a wild garden in a compound for railway clerks near the railway station in Delhi on Tuesday. However, she managed to get back to her hotel and reported to the police.
She lost her way and was kidnapped when she asked for road to go back to her hotel. The victim was greatly traumatized and collapsed when boarding the plane to fly back to Denmark Wednesday morning, according to media reports.
Foreign women are frequently targeted by criminals in India. In the latest cases of sexual assault against foreign women, a Polish tourist was raped earlier this month by a taxi driver near Delhi and a German volunteer social aid worker was raped by a man on a night train this week in Chennai, south India.
Local media said the newest rapes have further proved India is a highly dangerous place for women.
