China, Trinidad and Tobago mark 40 years of ties

Xie Yuan, vice chairman of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, gave a speech on Tuesday during the reception marking the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Trinidad and Tobago in Beijing. The reception marking 40 years of diplomatic ties between China and the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago was held in Beijing on Tuesday.

Xie Yuan, vice chairman of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and Chandradath Singh, ambassador of Trinidad and Tobago to China, delivered speeches, respectively. They both commemorated the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and expressed wishes for further bilateral cooperation in varied fields in the future.

Qiangba Puncog, vice chairman of China's National People's Congress Standing Committee, unveiled a commemorative stamp and exchanged good wishes with the ambassador.

Fantastic dances and songs performed by artists from both countries amped the excitement of attendees at the reception.

Trinidad and Tobago is a twin island country off the northern edge of South America that is generally considered part of the Caribbean. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on June 20, 1974. On Feb. 26, 2014, Trinidad and Tobago officially opened its embassy in Beijing.
