Pakistan Day, 65th anniversary of ties with China hailed in Beijing

A grand reception was held to celebrate the Pakistan Day and the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China by the Pakistan Embassy in Beijing yesterday evening.

A large gathering of guests attended the reception which included members of the diplomatic community and Chinese dignitaries. Yang Chuantang, Minister for Transport of Peoples Republic of China was the chief guest.

Welcoming the guests at the national day reception, Ambassador Masood Khalid said that the year 2016 was also particularly significant being the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Reviewing the years gone by, he said that both the countries had always stood by each other in times of need and cooperation in multifarious fields had touched new heights. He said that there were frequent visits of the top leaders to each other’s countries and cooperation in various fields was growing. The bilateral trade had increased significantly and work on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was making steady progress.

He expressed his appreciation for the Chinese support adding that through bilateral cultural and people-to-people contacts, feelings of trust and friendship would travel from generation to generation and the legacy of companionship would break new grounds in future.

Minister Yang Chuantang extended warm congratulations on behalf of the Chinese government on the 76th anniversary of the Pakistan Resolution and the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan. He said that Pakistan was China’s one and only all-weather strategic cooperation partner.

Yang said that Pakistan had endured enormous sacrifice and made outstanding contribution to countering terrorism and upholding peace and stability of the region and the world and that his country had great admiration for the people of Pakistan. Pakistan was one of the first countries to recognize New China, and the first Islamic country to enter into diplomatic relations with China, he added. At those critical times when New China endeavored to break the blockade, resume its lawful seat at the United Nations and explore ways to carry out reform and opening-up and on issues concerning China’s core interests, Pakistan always spoke up for China and gave firm support. When China was struck by natural disasters or faced with difficulties, Pakistan always lent a helping hand in a timely manner. What the Pakistani friends did for China would never be forgotten. Similarly, whenever Pakistan was in need, China came to its help. He said that China firmly supports Pakistan's efforts to uphold sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, national security and development. He said that China would work with Pakistan to make sure that bilateral cooperation brought more benefits to the people of both countries and the friendship was carried forward from one generation to another. He also mentioned that China-Pakistan relations had maintained a strong momentum of development in recent years.

Colorful and artistically choreographed cultural performances by the Embassy school children dressed in beautiful attire drew the applause and amazement of the gathering. The children performed Chinese and Pakistani songs and dances, for the entertainment and amusement of the guests. A cake cutting ceremony also took place in which the Ambassador, the chief guest and other dignitaries cut the cake.

Vice Chairman Cai Weizhou of National People’s Congress (NPC) of China, Kong Xuanyou, Assistant Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China as well as Rear Admiral Guan Youfei, Chief of Office of International Military Cooperation (OIMC) of the People's Liberation Army, also attended the other leading dignitaries.
