Journalists from China.org.cn, China Daily, China Radio International, China News Service and Guangming Daily met with editors and journalists from Java Pos Group and Jakarta Post.

They exchanged views on a wide range of issues, such as the focus of media reports, Indonesian media reports about China, sharing of news articles and the media's role in enhancing Sino-Indonesian ties.

The media exchange is part of a government-sponsored series of cultural events called "Experience China in Indonesia" in several Indonesian cities.

"Media reports will influence the course of the future Sino-Indonesian and China-ASEAN relations," said Wang Zhongwei, vice minister of the State Council Information Office, during a group interview on the sideline of a forum commemorating the 20th anniversary of relations between China and ASEAN on Wednesday. "So it is of great significance to enhance exchanges between Chinese and Indonesian media."

Indonesian journalists visited China in April, just before Premier Wen Jiabao's visit to Indonesia. They learned more about China through exchanges with Chinese media and gained a better understanding of the prospects for cooperation, Wang said.

"We need to create favorable public opinion to develop friendly Sino-Indonesian and China-ASEAN relations," Wang said.
