Unsurprisingly, she will play the lead role in the show that will premiere on July 1 and run till October.
"My main motivation to do something now is to see whether I really enjoy it," Liu told the press on Thursday in Beijing, while promoting the show.
Before Gong Li and Zhang Ziyi took the Chinese silver screen by storm in the late 80s and 90s, it was Liu who dominated, winning five Hundred-Flower Awards (China's top public choice movie award) and the Golden Rooster Award (nation's version of the Academy Awards).
At the peak of her career in 1990, she left films for a business career and repeated her success story by making it onto Forbes' list of the 50 richest Chinese businesspersons in 1999 at the age of 45.
Her three autobiographical books My Road (1983), My Eight Years (1992) and From A Movie Star to A Billionaire (1995) all topped the best-selling charts. And her comment then that "It's hard to be a human being, harder to be a woman and much harder to be a famous woman" was on everyone's lips.
