Liu fell from grace when she was arrested for tax evasion to the tune of 14.58 million yuan ($2.14 million) in 2002 and was imprisoned for 422 days. Soon, she was providing the headlines of every newspaper, not for her performances but for a series of lawsuits and her relationships.

"I've experienced too much, ups and downs, and had promised myself not to be a boss anymore, because it's too hard. But I was drawn to this project. I am not just the show's producer but also its artistic director and performer," she says.

But last October when she first got a call from Lei Yingkui, president of the Shaanxi Qin E Pang Palace Tourism Company, she laughed at the "ridiculous idea".

"I talked to my agent and both of us thought it was impossible. I had too many movies and TV series on hand. How could I spend several months or even longer acting in a tourism show, I thought?" she recalls.

But Lei was persistent and she finally visited E Pang Palace in December.

Covering 5.2 sq km in the western suburbs of Xi'an, Shaanxi province, the E Pang Palace site was built in 1995 and opened to tourists in 2000. It is a downsized replica of the E Pang Palace, the royal home of the First Emperor of the Qin Dynasty (221-206 BC).
