3, Farewell to visionary CEO Steve Jobs
Apple Inc. co-founder and CEO Steve Jobs died on October 5, 2011 at the age of 56, following a lengthy and highly public battle with cancer. Jobs was counted among the greatest American CEOs of his generation. He was seen as the heart and soul of a company that now rivals Exxon Mobil as America's most valuable company. His biography by Walter Isaacson hit book shelves across the world within three weeks of Jobs' death. The book became one of the best-selling books in China for 2011.
But Steve Jobs was not just an entrepreneur. He was also a visionary who heavily influenced our everyday life and of course, the entertainment industry. His vision, which included iTunes, transformed the music industry forever and changed the way people listen to music. Amazingly, iTunes also encouraged people to pay for music downloads which they would once have taken for free.
To mark Jobs' stellar achievements, the Recording Academy will posthumously award him a special "Trustees Award" Grammy during the annual Grammy Awards ceremony on February 12, 2012 in Los Angeles. In a statement, the Recording Academy said: "As former CEO and co-founder of Apple, Steve Jobs helped create products and technology that transformed the way we consume music, TV, movies, and books."
The statement continued: "A creative visionary, Jobs' innovations such as the iPod and its counterpart, the online iTunes store, revolutionized the industry and how music was distributed and purchased."
What's more, 3D animation movies from "Toy Story" to "Finding Nemo" by Jobs' Pixar Animation Studios also raised the bar for animation films and changed the movie industry forever.
