"The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1" roared to the top of the international box office, taking in over 150 million U.S. dollars over the weekend in 85 markets.
The film's weekend figure puts it 4 percent ahead of the global opening weekend for the 2013 prequel in the series, "Catching Fire."
The majority of the massive weekend gross for "Mockingjay - Part 1" is due to its U.S. turnout. Earning 123 million stateside so far, the first part of the "Hunger Games" finale ousted this year's previous big U.S. weekend earner - "Transformers: Age of Extinction."
"Mockingjay - Part 1" still has yet to open in China - the world's second-biggest movie market. The film has been pushed back to sometime in January next year.
