The Venice Film Festival, founded in 1932, is the oldest and one of the most important film festivals in the world. It takes place annually in late August or early September on the island of Lido, Venice, Italy. The festival's highest award, the Golden Lion, is awarded to the best film screened in competition at the festival. The 72nd Venice Film Festival is scheduled to take place from September 2 to 12, 2015.
