The Cannes Film Festival was founded in 1946 and is considered the most prestigious film festival in the world. The invitation-only annual festival is usually held in May in Cannes, France. The highest award given at Cannes is the Palme d'Or (or Golden Palm) for best film. The 2015 Cannes Film Festival took place from May 13 to 24.
In 1993, the Chinese film "Farewell My Concubine (Ba wang bie jie)" directed by Chen Kaige won the Palme d'Or.
