The Toronto International Film Festival was founded in 1976 and is one of the most prestigious events of its kind in the world. It is held annually in September in Toronto, Canada. TIFF has no jury and is non-competitive. Its major prize, the People's Choice Award, is given to the feature-length film that received the highest rating from audiences who attended TIFF.
In 2000, the Chinese film "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (Wo hu cang long)" directed by Ang Lee won the People's Choice Award.
