The Busan International Film Festival was founded in 1996 and is the first international film festival in South Korea. It is held during September and October annually in Busan, South Korea, and is one of the most significant film festivals in Asia. The New Currents Award is given to the best feature films.

A list of Chinese films awarded the New Currents Award:

1996, "In Expectation (Wu shan yun yu) " by Zhang Ming

1998, "Xiao Wu (Xiao wu)" by Jia Zhangke

2003, "The Missing (Bu jian)" by Lee Kang-sheng

2005, "Grain in Ear (Mang zhong)" by Zhang Lu

2006, "Betelut (Bin lang)" by Yang Heng
