Chip maker in talks on investors

Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp, China's biggest chip maker, said it's in "relatively advanced negotiations" with an unidentified investor.

The strategic investor may buy the chip maker's shares or convertible instruments, which could result in the possible acquisition of a "significant stake," Semiconductor Manufacturing said in Hong Kong yesterday.
