On August 14, Nokia, a globally renowned phone maker, announced
an order to recall 46 million factory packed cell phone batteries
worldwide. The company will offer new ones to the users.
Nokia China said that the Nokia BL-5C batteries produced by
Panasonic between December 2005 and November 2006 are liable to
overheating caused by short circuit while being recharged. Nokia
and Panasonic are currently cooperating in an investigation
concerning the problem.
Cai Yun, a senior staff member with Nokia China, revealed that
it is currently impossible for Nokia to know exactly how many the
problematic cell phones have been sold in China. But available
statistics show that the sales of the batteries were quite moderate
in China. Chinese users won't be affected much, he added.
