The annual meeting of the China Association for Science and
Technology concluded yesterday. At the conference the Minister of
Science and Technology said that during the 2006-10 period, China
would spend 60 billion yuan on the research and development of
science and technology aimed at energy saving and gas emission
reductions. Out of this number, 10 billion yuan will come from
central finance and the rest, 50 billion yuan, will consist of
public funds.
To tackle the challenges associated with the accelerating
urbanization process, the ministry will focus on science and
technology in areas such as urban construction, urban waste
disposal, power generation from garbage and automobile emissions.
They will establish energy saving and emission reduction monitoring
centers in cities around China.
