Official: New civil airport to be built in Beijing in 2010

Yang Yuanyuan, director of Administration of Civil Aviation of China (CAAC), disclosed yesterday when interviewed by overseas media that the construction of a new domestic civil airport will begin in 2010 in southern Beijing. An insider from the Department of Planning under the CAAC told the Shanghai Securities News that a research group has been set up in the CAAC. The Beijing Capital Airport's capacity can hardly meet the current market demand, thus a new airport is being considered. The project is now in the stage of choosing a location. Investment amount are unclear.

 

Yang says that the Beijing Capital Airport will still be the international airport hub and that the location of the fourth runway has been chosen.
