Shanghai expected to be 'wireless city' in 2010

As nations around the globe get more interested in becoming wireless, China is also rapidly building wireless broadband networks.

Yesterday the Shanghai Municipal Information Commission and China Telecom Group Shanghai Co., Ltd Wireless proposed to completely cover Shanghai in a high-speed broadband network before 2010. This is China's first major wireless municipal project with a specific timetable.

3G technology like WiMax technology or 4G technology could be used for the project. Shanghai authorities need to conduct more exploration regarding the WiMax technology. The project would be funded by multiple sources.
