'Terra-cotta Warrior' Emperor's Tomb Location Pinpointed
Archeologists from an electromagnetic survey team have identified the exact location of the underground mausoleum of China's first emperor Qingshihuang (259-210 BC) whose tomb is located near Xi'an, capital of northwestern China's Shaanxi Province, sources from the Ministry of Science and Technology said Thursday.
China Objects to US Duties on Chinese Goods
China is in opposition to US export limitations on Chinese textiles and the ruling that slapped dumping duties on color television imports from China, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao Thursday in Beijing.
Sino-German Cooperation to Revive Forestry Sector
By 2010, the German government will have completed a 25-year, 178 million euro (US$209 million) grant to China, to help reinvigorate the country's forestry sector. The grant makes Germany the largest donor country in Sino-foreign forestry cooperation.
Referendum Bill Prompts Tougher Talk
A Chinese official Wednesday pledged that the mainland will respond with tougher action if Taipei passes a law allowing the island to hold a referendum. The warning comes as Taiwan's top legislature is meeting to work on the passage of the referendum bill.
Domestic Violence Law Urged
A survey conducted by All-China Women's Federation shows that 16 percent of Chinese women have been beaten by their spouses. Meanwhile, 14.4 percent of men admitted that they had raised hands to hit their wives. Nov. 25 is International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
US Urged to Be Fair in Trade Problems
China urged the US to take a fair approach in tackling trading problems after the US made an anti-dumping ruling on Chinese-made TV sets. The US Commerce Department Monday announced in a preliminary ruling anti-dumping duties of 27.94 to 78.45 percent on imported TVs from China.
Nation Capable of Meeting Grain Needs
China is capable of maintaining the balance between grain supply and demand in the coming years and food security is under no imminent threat despite four consecutive years of decrease in grain output. Han Jun, a top official from the State Council Development Research Center, made these remarks recently.
