The Hong Kong /Japan co-production action adventure film Explosive City went on general release on Nov. 4th around Asia. The film features veteran HK actors Simon Yan and Alex Fong alongside Japanese movie stars Hisako Shirata and Sonny Chiba.
The film draws material from the currently hot topic of anti-terrorism, and starts with a failed assassination plot by terrorists. Hisako Shirata plays a Japanese woman who has been trained to be a professional killer since childhood. Her failure in her mission not only makes her suffer from temporary traumatic amnesia, but also causes a confrontation between her backup international crime organization and the Hong Kong police. A big conspiracy is just waiting to be unveiled by the forces of justice ...
The film continues previous HK productions' tradition of furious scenes such as gunfire and car chases, but using a different, more documentary-style approach. At the same time, the director has tried to cater to the tastes of western audiences.
