Cultural series donated to help Sino-US relations

In order to help strengthen the relationship between the United States and China, China International Publishing Group (CIPG) donated the Culture and Civilization of China book series to the U.S. Embassy in Beijing on July 23.	为进一步促进中美关系，7月23日，中国国际出版集团（中国外文局）在北京向美国驻华大使馆捐赠了《中国文化与文明》大型系列丛书。
U.S. Ambassador Jon Huntsman and CIPG Vice President Huang Youyi attended a ceremony for the donation.	美国驻华大使洪博培、中国外文局副局长黄友义出席了捐赠仪式。
The series program, which started in the 1990s, is jointly published by CIPG and Yale University. The books, printed in different languages, consist of three branches — illustrated studies, Chinese literary classics and Chinese philosophical works.	该丛书项目始于1990年，由中国外文局与耶鲁大学出版社合作出版。丛书分画册、中国文学名著、中国哲学思想三个系列，用多种文字发行。
During the ceremony, Ambassador Huntsman carefully held the book Three Thousand Years of Chinese Painting and read it with great interest.	在捐赠仪式上，洪博培大使对手中的《中国绘画三千年》表现出了极大的兴趣。
"Today, I feel very happy to receive these books," he said. "Through them, like the book in my hand or the book Chinese Architecture, you can have an easier understanding of Chinese history. You can feel the beauty of its culture."	“今天很高兴能够收到这套书。”他在接受记者采访时说，“通过这套书，比方说我手里的这本，又或者那本《中国古代建筑》，你可以更好地了解中国悠久的历史，领略到中国文化的魅力。”
He praised the work of American and Chinese scholars as a "critically important and difficult task." The books cover different aspects of Chinese history, such as art, silk and pottery.	他还盛赞中美两国专家此次的携手合作，称“完成这项艰巨的任务，非常的了不起。” 这套丛书涵盖了中国历史的方方面面，如艺术、丝绸和陶艺。
He said these bilingual books are easy for readers to study.	他表示，这套丛书采用英汉对照的方式更加方便读者阅读。
"The books lay out many details for people to better understand, and I will put them into the Embassy's library so that more people can share with me," he said.	“丛书内容详实具体，易于广大中外读者更好地去理解。我将把它放到使馆图书馆里，让更多的人能够阅读和欣赏。”洪博培大使这样说。
CIPG Vice President Huang Youyi said that the academic value, the mode of cooperation and the achievements of the project have attracted attention among government and academic circles in China and the U.S.	中国外文局副局长黄友义表示，该丛书项目的学术价值、合作模式及取得的成果均受到了中美两国领导和学术界的高度重视。
