In the Republican period, the entrance to the mausoleum was a tall granite arch on which was placed a sign with the two characters for "fraternity" handwritten on it in gold by Dr. Sun Yat-sen. The characters were engraved in the stone when Dr. Sun Yat-sen's body was moved to Zhongshan Mountain in the eastern suburbs of Nanjing. [Photo/China.org.cn]
