Zigong Ancient Salt City, one of the 'Top 5 salt cities with over 1000-year histories in China' by China.org.cn.

Zigong has long been named the "Salt City" for its brine extraction techniques, which date back to more than 2,000 years ago.

Zigong, named after two salt wells, Ziliujing Well and Gongjing Well, is the third-largest city in Sichuan Province. Zigong has long been named the "Salt City" for its brine extraction techniques, which date back to more than 2,000 years ago. Many say the best salt in China is produced from the salt wells of Sichuan, and the best salt wells in Sichuan are in Zigong.

Upon visiting the city, visitors can learn about the region's unique salt making process, and also purchase salt made in the traditional way. Locally-available pickles made with the traditionally-produced salt taste much better than ones made with salt produced with modern techniques.
