King's College London (King's or KCL) is one of the oldest and most prestigious university institutions in England, a multi-faculty research-led university college based in the heart of London. King's was founded by King George IV and the Duke of Wellington in 1829 and received its royal charter in 1836, when it became one of the two founding colleges of the University of London.
King's is organized into nine Schools of Study, spread across four Thames-side campuses in Central London and one in Denmark Hill, South London. King's has a particularly distinguished reputation in the humanities, law, the sciences – including a wide range of health areas such as psychiatry, medicine, nursing and dentistry – and social sciences including international affairs. It is one of the largest centers for graduate and post-graduate medical teaching and biomedical research in Europe.
King's has nearly 23,500 students from 140 countries and regions and approximately 6,000 employees currently. Amongst King's alumni and current and former faculty, there are 10 Nobel Prize laureates. In September 2010, Sunday Times selected King's as its "University of the Year."
