A skull belonging to the Stegosauria species was discovered in Zigong City, Sichuan Province in 1980. Later, geological experts unearthed more fossils of this particular dinosaur type, including a complete skeleton. The herbivore was named Huayangosaurus taibaii. The dinosaur, about 4.5 meters long, existed during the Middle Jurassic Period. It's the earliest and best-preserved Stegosauria dinosaur skeleton ever discovered, backing up theories that the species originated in East Asia.
