West Lake, Hangzhou, Zhejiang

The West Lake scenic area has been open free since 2002. In 2010, another eight free scenic sights were also opened to visitors. In October, the 12th West Lake International Expo Hangzhou will be held in the West Lake scenic area. By then, a big fireworks party will be provided for visitors.

Fayun ancient village

If you do not like crowds or noise in the major scenic area in the West Lake, Fayun ancient village is another choice. Here is a new path to avoid traffic. Go west at Linyin Temple until you reach the west wall of Linyin Temple. The Fayun ancient village (or Outer Tea Village) lies there quietly. It is perhaps the best-preserved mountain village in Hangzhou. There are 55 buildings in the village. The earth walls and the traditional style of houses are all demonstrations of the village's old history.

There are two ways to enter the village. One is from Linyin Mountain gate, where the famous scenic sites such as Feilai Peak, Linyin Temple and Yonfu Temple are located. The other free entrance is found at Zhongfa Road. Visitors can go west along Meilin North Road until they reach Xia Tian Zhu and Zhong Tian Zhu. The Zhongfa Road is just located between Xia Tian Zhu and Zhong Tian Zhu.

Visitors who plan to visit Fayun ancient village are suggested to bring some food and drinks.
