Fenghuang Ancient Town, Hunan

Located in Xiangxi Prefecture, Hunan Province, Fenghuang county is a well-preserved ancient town that harbors unique ethnic languages, customs, arts as well as many distinctive architectural remains of Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties'styles. The town is placed in a mountain setting, incorporating the natural flow of water into city layout. Over half of the city's population belongs to the Miao or Tujia minorities.

Not every scenic sight in the ancient town is free. Visitors have to pay when visiting the Former House of Shen Congwen and the Former House of Xiong Xiling.
