Creams of the crop
As one of the major presences in Lujiazui, the IFC Mall has many small eateries selling icy snacks in its basement. A handmade ice cream shop, Fresh Gelato, opened earlier this week. Shop owner Naoki Kuze says that although he is Japanese, he makes ice cream in the Italian way. "We insist on making healthy ice creams," he told the Global Times. "We add less sugar than ordinary ice creams, and we do not use any artificial ingredients. We add more fresh fruits to ensure a good taste, and it is fun for customers to see so much color in our ice creams." Milky drinks and milk shakes are also a highlight of the menu.
Ginza Sweets is a snack shop stand that sells typical Japanese-style ice cream. Opened last September, the shop offers three flavors - mocha, vanilla, or mixed - on top of a crispy waffle cone, each costing 15 yuan ($2.33). The shop also has sundaes in two flavors - mango and mocha. The shop specializes in a sea bream-shaped cake, which is a popular snack in Japan.
The ice cream franchise Iceason has many branches dotted around the city, including one in the basement of the IFC Mall. Many different flavors are displayed in a slowly rotating freezer. A wide selection of cakes and drinks are also on offer.
