Lofty ambitions
An old-style film projector sits in the front window of Shanging Loft while inside huge promotional models of the "Transformers" are placed besides couches. Shanging Loft is also a restaurant and bar, and is decorated with heavy, crimson curtains which give customers the feel of an authentic cinema of old.
Opened three years ago, the café is the only place in Shanghai that still uses an original film projector. However, the manager, surnamed Xu, told the Global Times that they only use the projector for screenings during important festivals, for example, Christmas and Valentine's Day. On those occasions they will invite a veteran projectionist from the Shanghai Film Studio to operate the projector.
By appointment, customers can bring along their own favorite DVDs to play on the big screen. And tomorrow night visitors can see Mary and Max.
