In sight of the name of Phnom Penh, people can't help but conjure up an image of the oriental exotic.

The glimmering spires of the royal palace, the fluttering saffron of the monks' robes, and the luscious location on the banks of the mighty Mekong.. All seem to fit one's imagination about foreign adventure. Besides these, it's interesting to experience the city via two other things -- the motorbike and gingery food.

The motorbikes are a tremendously powerful means of transportation in the capital home to more than 2 million residents. The traffic is heavy frequently, but the motorbikes always can cope by whizzing through the high streets and backstreets with scant thought for pedestrians. You need to watch out for them passing by, though sometimes a big smile the drivers give to you could make you feel really warm.

At the magnificent venue of the 20th ASEAN Summit and related meetings ongoing here, a large number of motorbikes in various colors, some with a national flag in the front, are also a distinct scenery, which may not be a sight for sore eyes, but reverberate an earthy and lively sound of life.

Sery Mom, in her twenties who is working as a volunteer for the event, said she owned one of the motorbikes just outside the Media Center.

"It's the most convenient way in the city to get back home after a day's working, what's more, it is rather costly to have a car in Phnom Penh because the fuel is expensive compared to our average income," she said.
