Two more national wetlands named in Ningxia

Sky Lake Ecological Tourism Area in Zhongwei City and Bird Island in Qingtongxia City, both in northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, have been listed as national wetland parks.

Covering an area of 45,000 mu (3,000 hectares), Sky Lake is in a mountainous area of southern Ningxia. It is home to more than 80 plant species including rose willows and reeds, as well as over 70 species of birds and 12 species of fish.

Bird Island is the largest wetland area along the Ningxia stretch of the Yellow River and is has 30 fish species and 300 bird species.

The total area of protected wetlands in Ningxia now stands at 3.84 million mu (256,000 hectares), including 28 demonstration areas and 19 wetland protection areas and parks, including seven national-level wetland parks.
