After nearly two years of construction, the Yellow River Cultural Park, featuring the local culture of Ningxia's Yellow River communities, opened on May 8 of this year in Qingtongxia City. The city's other attractions include the 'Yellow River Altar', the Yellow River Quay, and a hydraulic Museum, among other sights.
To coincide with the opening of new tourist facilities, the third annual China (Ningxia) International Exposition was held in Qingtongxia City in May. More than 40,000 tourists attended the event. This spring, tourism in the area is up 36 percent from last year, with tourism revenues reaching 1.5 million yuan ($234,000) for the May-July period.
Authorities hope that the new facilities as well as improvements in tourism infrastructure around the area will allow the Yellow River Altar and Yellow River Grand Canyon to draw an even larger base of visitors in coming years.
