More than 400 mosques in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region have set up reading rooms for Muslims in a bid to give them a convenient access to the latest books on politics, laws, religions, society, culture, technology and economics.
Hui people can learn about religion, as well as society, from books on agriculture, technology and society, said Ma Shaozhong, imam of Liming Mosque in Wuzhong. It has become a second class for Ningxia Muslims to read during the intervals in religious services.
Dubbed the "Hometown of Chinese Hui People," Wuzhong is a prefectural-level city mostly populated by Hui.
These reading rooms are equipped with TV sets, DVD players, desks and chairs and 50,000 books for Huis with the investment from the local government.
