Ningxia charity publishes its bills
China.org.cn, December 9, 2011 Print E-mail

Ningxia Charity Federation received 32 million yuan (US$5 million) in social donations and aid funds and paid out 19 million yuan in 2011, according to a financial report by the charity submitted to major donators for approval.

More than 30, 000 students, orphans, impoverished people and senior citizens have benefited from the funds offered by the charity.

The organization took the initiative to publish the financial report accepted by the donators and introduced the public supervision over the use of its donations in an effort to rebuild the credibility of charities.

Major Chinese charities have been repeatedly accused of corruption and misuse of funds, since June's Guo Meimei scandal. Guo claimed to be the "commercial general manager" of the Chinese Red Cross, the country's largest charity. Pictures posted on an online blog showed Ms Guo leaning on the hood of a white Maserati sports car and toting a selection of Hermes handbags, prompting instant uproar and widespread criticism.
