It had been claimed by the tour pals this week that a great number of cliff paintings were found in Gaofugou of Helan Mountain. The enumerators from the Cliff Painting Administrative Office came to Gaofugou on November 26th. After the reconnaissance, there are about 100 cliff paintings, among which there is one with a peculiar area.

The nearby quarries may threaten the paintings as there is a group of paintings on a 2-qaure-meter stone, which is only 100 meters away from the quarries. The paintings are tens of animals including cows, horses and deer. Among all the paintings, there is one painting about a large animal which is rarely seen before. What’s more, there are lots of paintings of animals, hunting and concentric circles on each side of the entrance of Gaofugou.

According to the section chief of the Cultural Relic Department of Cliff Painting Administrative Office, the paintings in Gaofugou have never been recorded before and more relevant protection measures will be taken henceforth. Since the three nearby quarries may threaten the cliff paintings, they have been prevented from operating now.
