In 2014, Ningxia was pushing forward major forestry projects from the State Forestry Bureau, which help inmprove the forest coverage rate to 13.8%. Meanwhile, the government also started forestry reform to promote forest rights system and forestry economy.

It is known that Ningxia has become one of the most serious desertification areas because it is surrounded by deserts on three sides. Therefore, Ningxia government always attaches great importance to ecological management. In 2014, Ningxia fulfilled the forestation with 1.317 million mu of planted area. To enhance ecological restoration in emigrant places, Ningxia carried out detailed measures such as enclosure, planting trees and grass and forest management.

Moreover, Ningxia also promoted forestry reform programs, including further streamline administration and institute decentralization as well as supporting new type of forestry enterprises.

According to the Director of Ningxia’s Forestry Bureau Wang Wenyu, continued efforts will be made to intensify the collective forest right system reform and accelerate ecological restoration, with forestry development transformation as the main theme, ecological forestry development as the core concept. It is estimated that this year Ningxia would plant trees on 1.2 million mu area and its forest coverage rate would reach 14.05%.
